BAKUCHIOL: THE NATURAL ALTERNATIVE TO RETINOL
You might have heard there’s a new Retinol alternative on the market, but what is Bakuchiol? And better yet, how do I pronounce it!
Ba-ku-chee-ol, is a vegan friendly, plant based alternative to the infamous anti-ageing wonder, Retinol. Derived from the seeds and leaves of the Babchi Plant, Bakuchiol is a gentle Vitamin A alternative that is perfect for those with sensitive skin (and everyone else of course!). This extract is commonly used in Indian & Chinese medicine, to heal, calm and soothe skin. And now it’s available at a supermarket near you! That’s right, we’ve taken this beauty and designed a booster serum to transform your complexion! So what makes this ingredient so special?
What are the benefits of Bakuchiol?
Said to be as effective as Retinol for improving skin texture & tone, targeting fine lines & wrinkles, and helping to promote collagen production, this little ingredient is not to be overlooked! Not only is this an anti-ageing must have, it also acts as a treatment for acne prone skin types, as it increases cell turnover and works to soothe skin irritation.
What’s the upside over Retinol?
Traditional Retinol/Retin-A products are not only known to cause skin purging, irritation and peeling, they also sensitise the skin to the sun's rays, and are unsafe for use during pregnancy & breastfeeding. Bakuchiol on the other hand is gentle enough for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as sensitive skin types. So if you’ve given Retinol a try and said ‘no thanks’, then Bakuchiol is waiting in the wings!
What can I & can’t I mix it with?
The beauty of Bakuchiol over Retinol is that you can mix it with pretty much every other skin care ingredient. Bakuchiol can be used alongside many of your skin care favourites, Vitamin C, Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid and more. Glycolic Acid on the other hand can degrade the effectiveness of Bakuchiol. You can even use Bakuchiol with Retinol to double down on your results, however this is only recommended if you already use Retinol with no sensitivity. Essentially, Bakuchiol is friends with everyone.
How do I use it, and how often?
Because Bakuchiol is a sensitive skin friendly ingredient you can use our Bakuchiol Booster Serum daily! If you have very sensitive skin we recommend starting with x3 times a week and building from there. Our formula is blended with Hyaluronic Acid, Olive Squalane and Rosehip Oil, to deeply hydrate and soothe skin, whilst Bakuchiol works to smooth fine lines, refine skin texture and uneven tone, and encourage collagen production by speeding up cell turnover. The lightweight serum formula is best applied after cleansing and before moisturiser and oil. Use day or night, and use as part of a consistent routine for best results. Our Bakuchiol Booster Serum is also recommended as an acne treatment for those with blemish prone and combination skin, apply day or night.
This serum is designed to work as part of our Ageless regimen, or incorporated into your existing routine. Check out of our Bakuchiol Booster Serum here.
